Superchunk, Polvo, Rosebuds Share Songs for Charity

North Carolina scene fixture Cy Rawls passed away this October after a battle with cancer, but his memory will live on through those whose lives he touched-- and through the internet. No really: CyTunes is a music download website launching tomorrow (Friday, December 12) and named in Rawls' honor.

The volunteer-run, non-for-profit digital download hub will already boast a bevy of sweet tunes when it goes live, including exclusive concert recordings from Superchunk, Polvo, the Rosebuds, Fin Fang Foom, and Birds of Avalon, and new studio offerings from the Nein, a band named I Was Totally Destroying It, and a new outfit featuring the Rosebuds' Ivan Howard called the Flute Flies, among many others. More good stuff is expected to follow, and CyTunes' organizers have extended an invitation to acts outside the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area to contribute material to the good cause.

All proceeds from sales of music on CyTunes go to the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke University in Durham, where Rawls was being treated before passing on.

If you're in the area, come celebrate the launch of CyTunes tomorrow night at the Local 506 in Chapel Hill, where the aforementioned Flute Flies will make their live debut.
