Flaming Lips to Curate One Day of ATP NY 2009
Looks like we're in for another super fun ride for All Tomorrow's Parties New York 2009. The merry-makers in the Flaming Lips have been announced as the curators and headliners for the final day of the three-day affair, which will take place September 11-13, 2009 at Kutshers Country Club in Monticello, New York. So we can expect some dancing aliens, Santa Clauses, and naked chicks along with our borscht and noise rock.
Autolux and Black Dice have also been added to the lineup for Saturday, September 12, the ATP-curated day. As previously reported, the ATP NY 2009 lineup already includes Suicide playing their 1977 self-titled debut and Dirty Three doing Ocean Songs as part of the Don't Look Back program on Friday, September 11, a David Cross-curated night of comedy also on Friday, September 11, and on Saturday, Animal Collective and Panda Bear, Atlas Sound, and Antipop Consortium. (Full disclosure: Pitchfork has teamed with All Tomorrow's Parties for Don't Look Back nights at the Pitchfork Music Festival.)
In other All Tomorrow's Parties news, Retribution Gospel Choir, the Cave Singers, and Sleepy Sun have been added to ATP: The Fans Strike Back, taking place May 8-10, 2009 at Butlins Holiday Resort in Minehead, England. That ATP also includes the Jesus Lizard's first reunion show, Young Marble Giants performing Colossal Youth in its entirety, the reunited Sleep, Spiritualized, Devo, Antipop Consortium, and Grails. The Breeders-curated ATP, taking place at Butlins the following weekend, May 15-17, 2009, has added Deerhunter, Gang of Four, Shellac, Foals, Zach Hill, the Soft Pack (formerly the Muslims), and the Holloys to a lineup that already includes the Breeders, Throwing Muses, Bon Iver, Teenage Fanclub, Holy Fuck, Kimya Dawson, and Pit Er Pat.
