Dan Deacon Clarifies What "Dark" Means

And my very first Pitchfork News post gets put on blast
Dan Deacon Clarifies What "Dark" Means

Last year, Dan Deacon talked to Pitchfork about Bromst, his next record, and he had this to say: "It's a much darker album in tone, and elements of the story have been really weighing down on me. Not to say it isn't a positive record, but it's just more balanced in emotional range than Spiderman of the Rings."

Well, those of us waiting on Deacon to make his Dario Argento soundtrack are just going to keep holding our breaths. In this MySpace bulletin he sent out last night, Deacon clarified what, exactly, he meant by "dark":

"clearly i wasn't trying to say i'm writing the next KMFDM album or something, i was just trying to illustrate that its not as top heavy for partying and slightly more proportioned towards a wider set of emotions. i feel like a lot of media is focusing on that one word - dark - and i would just like to clear that up as it seems to be getting distorted through the feedback loop that is blog culture and digital music press.

"anyway, my only hope is that people listen to bromst with an open mind and without any expectations or pre-subscribed mindsets. i hope when you hear it you enjoy it. but if not, thats ok, i'll still know its awesome. i love you."

Deacon revealed the tracklist and (spooky) cover for the not-really-all-that-dark Bromst earlier this week, as well as the track "Get Older". The album is due March 24 on Carpark. Meanwhile, I would totally like to hear Dan Deacon's KMFDM album.

Thanks to Duff from Philly for the tip.
