News in Brief: Lil Wayne, Little Boots, the Streets, Daniel Johnston
-- We all know Lil Wayne has his own incredible sports blog on ESPN's website, where he talks about everything from the Dallas Cowboys to Manny Ramirez to 1990s alt-rockers Semisonic ("Closing Time" is his dream closing pitcher song). And now he's guested on ESPN's pigskin chat show 1st and 10-- watch the entire episode here. Personal highlight: When ESPN hot head Skip Bayless admits his favorite Carter III song is "Monster" aka "Pussy Monster", which is quite lewd...and isn't even on the album.
-- From Lil to Little: The most hyped-up, fresh-faced British disco diva of 2009 must be Little Boots (aka Victoria Hesketh). She's already gracing magazine covers and now the "Stuck on Repeat" singer is finishing-up her debut LP in Hollywood along with planning a European tour and releasing a brand new cover of the Giorgio Moroder-Freddie Mercury track "Love Kills". Big things, big things.
-- Australian Streets fans, your time is now. Mike Skinner & Co. will head Down Under the beginning of next month for a brief seven-date tour. U.S. Streets fans, your time is...not now. In a recent blog post, Skinner said it looks like he won't have the funds to make it over to America to support his latest, Everything Is Borrowed. "I've been getting paid to tour all over the world for years as a result of those overpriced CD things," he wrote. "It has to come to an end at some point."
-- Daniel Johnston fans can catch their hero in all his awkward glory on a just-released 23-track live DVD, The Angel and Daniel Johnston-- Live at the Union Chapel, taped in London in 2007. Check here for a trailer and ordering info.
