Rivers Cuomo to Play Soccer with "Extreme Makeover" Guy, Again
According to his soccer-themed "Lover in the Snow" video, Rivers Cuomo took his first step "trying to kick a soccer ball." The Weezer front man clearly has a lot love for the Beautiful Game. And, after scoring the first goal for his team at last year's Mia Hamm and Nomar Garciaparra Celebrity Soccer Challenge, Cuomo will once again get to show off his skills on the pitch this year at the annual charity event, which takes place January 17 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.
The nerd king will strap on his cleats alongside a who's who of C-level reality show celebs including Dancing with the Stars' Maksim Cherkovski and Extreme Makover: Home Edition's Ty Pennington. Actual soccer players and other sports stars like Tony Hawk and Beijing beach volleyball titans Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor will balance out the onfield talent. Will Misty May and Kerri wear shamelessly revealing swimwear? Will Rivers win the game with a last-gasp, extra-time goal? We don't know. The thing hasn't happened yet.
On the surface, it's a particularly fruitful time to be a Weezer fan (even if their last album only had one and a half good songs on it): You've got that Christmas with Weezer EP, the totally extreme (dude) "Greatest Man That Ever Lived" skiing video, and Rivers' in-studio duet with the recently shit-canned Jermaine Dupri. We're still wrapping our heads around that last one.
