Pete Doherty Still Alive, Releasing Solo Album

Since he was released from prison last May, Pete Doherty's kept a relatively low profile. No huge drug busts, no public fights with Kate Moss, only a few missed gigs. But the one-time Libertine and Babyshamble clawed his way back to headline status this week with news about that other thing he does: music.

He's got an as-yet-untitled solo album coming March 9, according to NME. While this is Doherty's official first solo LP, he's not working alone: As previously reported, former Blur guitarist Graham Coxon lent his six-string skills to almost every song on the album. In something of a preemptive measure, Coxon apparently took to a Blur message board yesterday to defend his decision to team up with one of the world's most notorious junkies: "i actually like pete as a person a lot. he is very funny, warm and charming....some songs here touched me quite deep to be honest...and lyrically i think hes bang on with this record."

Solidifying the Blur connection, Stephen Street (Parklife, The Great Escape) is behind the boards again after producing Babyshambles' 2007 LP Shotters Nation. And first single "Last of the English Roses", to be released March 2, apparently sounds a lot like Gorillaz. NME's amusingly breathless preview calls the LP the most "diverse album Pete has made by a long stretch," and says it includes both Libertines-esque shufflers and Eastern acoustic guitar.

Somewhere, Damon Albarn is not caring about this news.
