Dark Was the Night Full Tracklist Announced

The most indie tracklist quite possibly ever
Dark Was the Night Full Tracklist Announced

The Red Hot Organization has been raising money for AIDS awareness via eye-popping compilations--often featuring unique collaborations between artists-- for 20 years. Dark Was the Night (double disc and triple vinyl out on 4AD February 17 in the U.S. and February 16 in the UK) is the 20th Red Hot comp and its tracklist may cause even casual Pitchfork readers to suffer temporary shortness of breath: So many...exclusive tracks...from my...favorite...bands [fainting noise]. We've reported the list of bands taking part in this thing, but now we've got the list of songs as well.

The compilation was curated by the National's Aaron and Bryce Dessner, who deserve some kind of indie medal of honor. (Check out our interview with Aaron about the comp here.) 4AD are giving away David Byrne and Dirty Projectors' lead-off track "Knotty Pine", as Forkcasted earlier, and the track will be released as a single in the UK on February 2, backed by the National's "So Far Around the Bend".

And the Red Hot MySpace page will stream one track from the record per day starting today. Breathe easy.
