News in Brief: Thurston Moore, Telekinesis, No Kids, Kitsuné

-- Thurston Moore is playing a few Northeast dates with go-to Swedish free-jazz sax dude Mats Gustafsson starting this Thursday. Why? Because he's Thurston Moore and he can do whatever he wants, dammit. He'll represent NYC cool for 30 years and then do a CD for Starbucks...just to fuck with people! It's amazing. In his spare time, Moore is finishing the new Sonic Youth album-- follow all the mundane mixing details on SY's Twitter.
-- Merge Records fanatics, you have a new band to follow. Seattle's Telekinesis play pop-rock that should appeal to a wide swath of indie-rock fans. They're not terribly daring, but they're good. And that's what matters, right? While you wait for the band's self-titled, Chris Walla-produced debut LP to drop on April 7, check out a few songs-- including pretty-great first single "Coast of Carolina"-- on their MySpace. They're also touring with bands like Ra Ra Riot and Cut Off Your Hands in the coming months.
-- There's nothing like a rock'n'roll musical to embarrass everyone involved. So expect the unintentionally funny when No Kids' Nicholas Krgovich (aka Nick K.) premieres his musical In the Yard, Havin' Fun: A Prison Musical at the Push Festival in Vancouver on February 5 and 6. The song and dance expo will be performed with members of Cryptacize, No Kids, and Ladyhawk. Juana Molina, Parenthetical Girls, and Dean and Britta will also take part in the festival, though they won't put their necks on the line for the musical.
-- Time to grab those neon pink leg warmers out of the closet: All-systems-go French dance label Kitsuné is going on tour. Label acts Guns 'N' Bombs, Heartsrevolution, autoKratz, and Beni are taking part in a free tour sponsored by the Toyota Scion. Expect big car posters and maybe some pine air-freshener giveaways, but it's free! (RSVP here starting February 4.) The label's Toyota love goes even further: look out for Scion CD Sampler Volume 23: Kitsuné Pioneer (out January 30), a new mixtape featuring all sorts of remixes that'll make you do silly moves in your mirror.
