Muxtape Returns! (Sorta!)

 Muxtape Returns! (Sorta!)

Muxtape used to be the ultimate music playlist website-- so simple even an especially dumb baby would have little trouble uploading its own personal Lil Wayne's Greatest Hits mix to share with its dumb-baby friends. But then evil powers in the form of major record labels and the RIAA descended, and Muxtape was forced to shut down. But now it's back, and while it looks similar to the old Muxtape (big letters, primary colored boxes), it acts totally different.

Instead of allowing users to upload their own songs, only bands that sign up will be allowed to host music. During the current test stage, only a few bands-- including Girl Talk, Dan Deacon, and Of Montreal-- are offering music. But, in time, artists will apparently be able to "easily sell downloads, issue tickets, create and sell merchandise, and network with other bands and listeners" on the site. So it's kinda like a cool-kid, non-evil alternative to MySpace Music. Interested bands will be able to sign up in the next couple weeks according to the site's FAQ.

And, according to the Muxtape Tumblr, it looks like they got a sweet new loft...and a sitar! Take that, RIAA!
