The Juan Maclean Ready Sophomore Album
It's been nearly four years since the Juan Maclean dropped the kinda underrated glittering synth opus Less Than Human on us (and even longer since he abused guitars under his real name, John MacLean, as a member of Providence noise OGs Six Finger Satellite). Since then, Maclean's kept pretty busy: DJing virtually every DFA event in New York, remixing folks like Sally Shapiro and the Presets, releasing one of our favorite singles of 2008. Now, a second Juan Maclean album, The Future Will Come, is ready to go out into the world and make its way.
On April 14, The Future Will Come will come via DFA. The Juan's second album will be the first with "Happy House" vocalist and LCD Soundsystem touring member Nancy Whang as something approaching a full-time collaborator. (That's her alongside Maclean in the Sleeper-looking waiting-room album cover above.) Nick Millhiser and Alex Frankel, both halves of the NY disco duo Holy Ghost! also helped out, as did !!! drummer Jerry Fuchs. And according to a press release, Maclean also spent a whole lot of time listening to Dare-era Human League as preparation, always a good idea.
"One Day", probably fortunately, is not a UGK cover.
Maclean's on a European DJ tour right now, and when that gets done, he'll tour the U.S. with a full band.
