The Dears Release EP, Change Labels

They can be Anglophiles, they're not really French

Montreal Anglophile sextet the Dears have announced they are releasing a four-song EP, the first peep out of this romantic set since last year's End of a Hollywood Bedtime Story. That record, acclaimed by all who heard it (read: the Canadian press) was released on Montreal's Grenadine Records. After months of recording what was to be their full-length Grenadine follow-up, Deuxieme Partie, the Dears decided that the songs from those sessions "would have to wait for the right studio, the right orchestration, the right resources" to do them justice. So they've jumped ship to Toronto's fledgeling Shipbuilding Records.

In a clear effort to attract the sort of the attention that will allow the band to receive "the right resources," they will release two EPs for Shipbuilding, before even talking about Deuxieme Partie. The first of these teasers will be released July 12th, and is entitled Orchestral Pop Noir Romantique, a phrase the band has often used to describe their lush, Morrissey-tinged style. The four-song EP will sport a similar sound to the Bedtime Story full-length, acting as a "parody of itself, and sometimes even a parody of a parody." That's, like, postmodern, right?
