Wilco Takes It Higher on Fall's Damn Yankee

But high enough to fly us over yesterday?
As reported in the Chicago Sun-Times, Jeff Tweedy has just returned from Abbey Road Studios after mastering Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, Wilco's fourth studio album due on Warner Bros in September. Expect a complete departure as new drummer Glenn Kotche, and new mixer Jim O'Rourke, has led Sun-Times critic Jim DeRogatis to describe the sound as Big Star mixed with Can. Synthesizers, fractured percussion, and strings flesh out the new, more collage-based direction, which was surprisingly "reeled in" by goofball O'Rourke. As far as we know, Jim's stuffed animals will not appear on the album cover.

Tweedy and O'Rourke first collaborated publicly for a one-off show at NoisePop Chicago 2000, and went on to record an album of as-yet-unreleased material with Kotche, who previously played with Birddog and O'Rourke.
