Smog Subtly Changes Name, Readies New Album

Weakest publicity stunt since Pee-Wee's public self-gratification

In a move that has become all too familiar in the pop music world, Bill Callahan, already operating under the alias of Smog, will ask his audience to no longer refer to him by the same name, thank you. Instead, he wishes to be known by the completely different moniker of (Smog). At least it isn't an unpronounceable symbol. According to (Smog)'s label, Drag City Records, this change will take effect on the spine of Callahan's forthcoming record, to be released on September 18th. The record, his ninth for Drag City and first since last year's Dongs of Sevotion, will be entitled Rain on Lens. Perhaps for his supporting tour, he'll appear in purple velvet assless pants with "Dongs" scrawled on his cheek in eyeliner.
