Mercury Program Kicks Off Major U.S. Tour
According to Tiger Style Records, Florida's most loveable un-pop quartet, the Mercury Program, are ready to put the hyphen back in "post-rock," live music style. Hot on the three-month old heels of their latest EP, All the Suits Began to Fall Off, the tour runs through late August, culminating with a show in the band's hometown of Gainesville. On all dates through August 16th, the Mercury Program will be performing with former Braid guitarist Chris Broach's latest project, the Firebird Band. Whose cover of a PJ Harvey song, we might add, is the worst thing that ever happened to humanity.
All the Suits Began to Fall Off registers a marked progression for the group, elevating the up-and-comers above the ranks of many an over-hyped sonic muser. The 30-minute EP witnesses relinquishment of the non-conclusive vocals featured on previous efforts, focusing instead upon tighter, more conducive instrumentation, songwriting and arranging. We here at Pitchfork like our post-rock tight. Like spandex, y'all.
