Drag City Artists Unite for Supersession
Like USA for Africa, but without the starving
Africa's going through some rough times, what with the Zimbabwe floods, the
AIDS epidemic, and the rampant eating disorders (what some people will do to
be thin!). But this hasn't affected the roster of Chicago's Drag City label.
While millions of Nigerians go hungry, these scenesters
are living it up in air-conditioned studios, recording "the most super
fuckin' album since Falco 3" (our words). Though the record likely
won't include a rendition of the deceased Austrian pop star's eight-minute
samplefest "Ein Szhlicten Car Accident (My Bad)," it will feature a cavalcade
of stars worthy of their own prime-time dramedy (not our word).
The understated and violently moody ensemble includes, but is not limited to, Bill Callahan of the newly parenthesized (Smog)-- also known as (You've Got to Be Shitting Us)-- Edith Frost, Jim O'Rourke, Tara Key, the "Brothers Murphy" (of Chestnut Station), Azita Youseffi, and producer Neil Michael Hagerty. The album, which is being given release sometime in August or September, will actually be released under the bandname Drag City Supersession, as far as we can tell, and has been given the title Tramps, Traitors and Little Devils. All proceeds will be donated to the musicians and the record label. Fuck Somalia, they need beer!
