Calvin Johnson, The Microphones to Tour

Miming is the future of indie rock

Two of the best-known artists on K Records, label founder Calvin Johnson and the Microphones, are set to go on a cross-country tour in August and September. The whimsically titled Paper Opera Tour will go from Montana to Washington state by way of New York and New Orleans, if that makes any sense. Joining the two headliners are future K Punkers Get the Hell Out of the Way of the Volcano, led by resident album-cover artist Khaela Maricich.

Apparently, the Paper Opera Tour will be an "interdisciplinary approach to performance," with four distinct elements: Audience Assimilation, Reflexive Situations (unplanned events, often suggested by the audience), Mime, and, of course, Music. The Microphones' last proper LP was 2000's acclaimed It Was Hot, We Stayed in The Water. Besides founding K Records, Calvin Johnson is known for his work with Dub Narcotic Sound System and Beat Happening. And the dates:
