Apes Release Debut Album

They already have their own planet

According to the Self Starter Foundation label, Washington, DC natives the Apes will release their first LP, The Fugue in the Fog, on September 4th. But why should you care? Well, they've got the all-important direct connection to Les Savy Fav. Not only do they share the same labels as LSF (The Self-Starter Foundation and LSF's own Frenchkiss), they've also got the same remarkable stage energy, which is a nice match for their riff-heavy psychedelic punk sound.

The Fugue in the Fog does a fine job of duplicating the visceral pleasure of the Apes' live experience, offering plenty of Animal-esque drumming, distorted vocals and, of course, heavy bass and organ riffs. Although their band page is under construction, their label page includes two MP3s from the upcoming album, "Lightning" and "Apetown." The Apes also have a few live dates scheduled, and plan to play a few others in the upcoming months. Dates:

08-05 New York, NY - Brownies
08-11 Washington, DC - TBA (w/Enon)
08-13 New York, NY - Knitting Factory (w/Murder City Devils)
