Jeff Mangum Live LP Sees Light of Day

Awed by Joan Jett's brilliant depiction of struggling rock chick

After months of waiting, nail-biting, and wiping semen from a bleeding donkey's eye, the fuzzy-footed elves at Orange Twin have finally put Neutral Milk Hotel frontman Jeff Mangum's live album, Live at Jittery Joe's, up for sale on their website. Recorded at a coffee house in Athens, Georgia on March 7, 1997, the album showcases songs from Neutral Milk Hotel's two full-lengths, On Avery Island and In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, as well as some songs from early, self-released cassettes and a Phil Spector cover. CD-R bootlegs of this show have been circulating for years, sometimes under the name Hot, Live Man Gum (maybe that's just our copy). Most of the set has made its way onto various MP3 trading services, but, you know, if you hear it that way, you don't get to pay for it. Tracklist:

01 A Baby for Pree
02 Two Headed Boy
03 I Will Bury You in Time
04 Two Headed Boy Pt. 2
05 Gardenhead
06 I Love How You Love Me
07 Engine
08 Naomi
09 Oh Comely

Meanwhile, a statement supposedly issued by Mangum himself has surfaced on the Elephant 6 message board. If you're a fan of cryptic, mildly psychotic rambling, you can read the full text of the message here. And if you're just wondering about the possibility of an upcoming album or tour, you'll be disappointed to hear that it doesn't look like either of those are in the cards. But hey, who needs a tour when you have a live album, right?
