Boxhead Ensemble to Release New LP

Rachel's edged out for "best scenester orchestra" title

Fans of minimalist, experimental recordings take note: Two Brothers, the second release from the Boxhead Ensemble, has been given a release date of August 21st. The album, which is being given release by Truckstop Records, will feature musicians creating beautiful noise and experimentation from traditional folk songs. Here's a list of the performers and some of their past credits:

Michael Krassner, guitar (Lofty Pillars, Songs: Ohia, Panoply Academy, Edith Frost)
Fred Lonberg-Holm, cello (Superchunk, Jim O'Rourke, US Maple, John Zorn)
Jessica Billey, violin (Pinetop Seven, Mick Turner, Handsome Family)
Ryan Hembrey, bass (Joan of Arc, Pinetop Seven, Manishevitz, Chris Mills)
Glenn Kotche, drums (Jim O'Rourke, Lofty Pillars, Chris Mills)
Scott Tuma, guitar (Jack the Dog, Souled American)

The record will also include appearances from Wilco's Jeff Tweedy, Tortoise guitarist Jeff Parker, Dirty Three guitarist Mick Turner, and Jim White guitarist Jim White. So expect to hear some guitar.

The original intent of the Boxhead Ensemble (whose original line-up included Will Oldham, Ken Vandermark, and Edith Frost) was to create the score for the short film documentary, Dutch Harbor, about a remote fishing village in Alaska. After they finished the score, the loose collection of musicians found themselves putting together a live act and releasing a concert recording, The Last Place to Go. Boxhead founder Michael Krassner has also just finished the new album, Amsterdam from his solo project, the Lofty Pillars.
