Apes Take Their Guitarless Show on the Road

Like evolution never happened

The boisterous D.C. quartet the Apes are set to tour in support of their first LP, The Fugue in the Fog, which hits stores on September 4th. The band signed to Les Savy Fav's Frenchkiss label earlier this year, and will share the stage with the adamant art-punks through the end of the year, beginning with a show at New York's Bowery Ballroom on November 1st

The Apes, who dress entirely in camouflage for performances, have exactly zero guitarists in their lineup, leaving them to ride full-tilt against the ears with thick organ and bass riffs, punishing drums and convulsive vocals. Vocalist Paul Weil leads the assault with a stage presence that's half-Tim Harrington, half-Robert Plant. Which brings to mind a further question: when will the Apes get ever sick of the Les Savy Fav comparisons?
