Sloan Releases New Album, Tours

Ferris, Cameron "totally unaware" of her vocal prowess

Sloan's sixth album, Pretty Together, is set to be released on October 16th via Murderecords. Taking its name from a flippant Sterling Morrison comment at the end of VU's "Temptation Inside Your Heart," the 13-track album marks the return of Dave Ogilvie of Skinny Puppy fame to the production side of things. Ogilvie last worked with Sloan about ten years ago on their DGC debut, Smeared.

Pretty Together is described as a retrenchment after the crisp but diffuse feel of 1999's Between the Bridges. Instead of pulling out the guitar pedals, the quartet started fooling with drum loops and home recording software to give the album a more "wet sound." In a fit of delusionary grandeur and/or gutsy bravado, the press release claims Pretty Together will be equal parts Kiss! Alive, George Harrison's All Things Must Pass, the Smiths' The Queen is Dead and the first Stone Roses album. Oh, really. Are you guys sure it's not like The White Album meets Pet Sounds meets Surfer Rosa meets London Calling meets Loveless? Just checking.

Starting October 15th, the resilient Nova Scotian power-pop quartet will tour Canada before trekking into the eastern U.S. in November. More dates pending.
