Jenny Toomey Performs, Lectures
Jenny Toomey is heading out on a tour of bars and lecture halls nationwide. Yes, lecture halls. But no, Toomey won't exactly teach college kids that there's more to music than Dave Matthews; she'll speak on artist rights and copyright law. Then she'll perform at regular venues with her backup band. Expect to hear songs from her debut, double-disc solo album, Antidote, which was released last week on Misra Records.
Getting her start in bands like Grenadine and Liquorice, Toomey has built one hell of an indie rock resume over the years. After starting the influential Simple Machines label in the early 90s, she formed the seminal Tsunami with guitarist Kristin Thomson. Since then, she's co-authored An Introductory Mechanic's Guide to Putting Out Records, and seized the position of Executive Director for the Future of Music Coalition, a non-profit that addresses issues in music, technology, and law.
