Swearing at Motorists Recording New Album

In these troubled times, maybe they could consider talking things out

Would you believe that the best album to come out of Dayton, Ohio in 2000 was not Guided by Voices? Those honors belong to Dave Doughman and Don Thrasher (former GBV drummer, but what drummer from the Dayton area didn't play with GBV at one time or another), more commonly known as Swearing at Motorists. On the heels of last year's grossly underrated album, Number Seven Uptown (Secretly Canadian), Doughman is currently working on the follow-up at MagRecOne Studios in Olympia, Washington. The new album, While Laughing, the Joker Tells the Truth, has yet to be fitted with a release date.

In other Dave Doughman news, he's just finished collaborating with Jean Smith of the Vancouver-based Mecca Normal. The album was recorded in three days in Olympia, which Dave managed to squeeze in between doing the sound for several Unwound shows in the area. And before you can formulate the letters that spell out "workaholic," the Fargo, ND-based label Super Asbestos plans to release a split 7" between Spoon and the Motorists this winter. Hmm... Fargo? Winter? Coincidence? I think not.
