Sex Pistols Tap Trail of Dead for Reunion Gig

Is this the M.P.L.A.? Or is this the U.D.A.? Or is this the A.Y.W.K.U.B.T.T.O.D.?

Will Bryant & Ryan Schreiber report:
The Sex Pistols have tapped And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead to open their July 27th reunion gig at London's Crystal Palace National Sports Centre, according to New Musical Express. The Pistols reunion is also set to include sets from Amen, the Libertines and the Dropkick Murphys, according to Sex Pistols fansite God Save the Sex Pistols. Although rumors (and rumours) had buzzed that the Pistols would be joined by punk legends like the Buzzcocks, The Cramps or The Damned, no "traditional, old-school punk bands" are on the bill at the behest of John Lydon, who wished to invite newer bands that are favorites of the individual band members. So which member of the Pistols picked Trail of Dead for their kickball team? Matlock, I'm lookin' at you!

Trail of Dead drew rave reviews from the British press not only for Source Tags and Codes, but for a blistering February gig sponsored by NME in which the band's Jason Reece destroyed his vintage Flying V guitar onstage-- only to have it replaced by an identical one for the next song. The band destroyed all their instruments after the brief showcase, rendering an encore impossible. Guess those Brits didn't know it's part of the routine. Trail of Dead released "Another Morning Stoner" as a UK single in April and are set to follow it up with "Relative Ways" on September 2nd.

But seriously, how fucking weird is this? No, like on all levels. A) When the Sex Pistols reunited a few years back for the outrageously wack Filthy Lucre tour, people literally threw shit at them. Threw shit! And spat on them! Yet they're apparently willing to subject themselves to this rigamarole a second time, and for what? So Lydon can afford another $85 haircut? He's not the president of the world! B) Trail of Dead opening for the Sex Pistols. This, frankly, blows our minds off. For once, we have no idea what to think about something.
