Black Box Recorder to Release New Album

Passionoia Tropical Fruit Antidepressants prepare legal action

The lovelorn and morose boys and girl of England's Black Box Recorder will release their new LP, Passionoia on March 3rd in the UK. There's no word yet on a North American distributor or date, but if their past few releases are any indication, you can expect it to drop a month or two later on Jetset. The first single will be for "These Are the Things", which will be released in the UK on February 17th. Unlike the most recent release by that other band boasting a former-Jesus & Mary Chain drummer, BBR's newest will feature more electronics than their previous albums, but no vocals by waify supermodels. Aww. We were at least hoping for cameo from Lola Carlyle! Tracklist:

01 The School Song
02 GSOH QED
03 British Racing Green
04 Being Number One
05 The New Diana
06 These Are The Things
07 Andrew Ridgely
08 When Britain Refused To Sing
09 Girls Guide For The Modern Diva
10 I Ran All The Way Home

Passionoia marks the Recorder's first collection of new material since 2000's The Facts of Life, and is the band's first release with One Little Indian Recordings. Geez, that makes... three different UK labels in five years. Do you think it had anything to do with their "dangerously subversive" anti-authoritarian politics? Nah, probably just a string of bad luck leading to a deadly wake of wreckage. Either that, or their ode to Wham! pounce pony Andrew Ridgely scared everyone off.

To prepare for the new album's release, Black Box Recorder played the EuroSonic Festival in Groningen, Holland on January 10th with Neko Case & Her Boyfriends, Bettie Serveert, and The Flaming Sideburns. BBR also has one upcoming date on the calendar, a January 30th show at the Metro on Oxford Street, London.
