Courtney Love Arrested in Air Rage Drama

Audition to be new R.E.M. guitarist goes too far

The latest in a rash of music celebrity arrests (well, okay, so it's just Phil Spector and Courtney Hole so far, but these things come in threes, don't you know), Hole frontwoman and former Mrs. Kurt Cobain, Courtney Love, was arrested yesterday at Heathrow Airport in London, England, on suspicion of disruptive behavior and endangering an airplane. An airport police spokesman said that Love was being "abusive, unruly and insubordinate" during the Virgin Atlantic flight from Los Angeles, CA that was carrying 200 passengers. Apparently, Love refused to take her seat and became verbally abusive to the captain, who radioed ahead to the authorities in London to, presumably, prepare the tranquilizer guns. Sources were unclear whether the incident occurred because Love was acting all whacked-out on smack and vodka/beer bongs, or she was "just being herself," since these two behaviorial characteristics are often indistinguishable.

According to Reuters, witnesses said the singer appeared "unsteady" while she was being escorted away by police. One fellow passenger described Love as looking "out of it." Both of which are, of course, nothing out of the ordinary for alternative rock's Black Widow. She was detained by the authorities for several hours and released without charges. A statement from her publicist said, "There was a brief verbal disagreement during the flight, but the situation has been highly exaggerated." Upon her release, the bleach-blond makeover queen admitted she swore at a flight attendant but said there was nothing more to it. "I cussed at a lady," she said. "My [ten-year-old] daughter is always saying I had a potty mouth. I cussed at a lady named Mary. She wasn't letting my friend into first class so I said, 'Why are you being a bitch about it?'" Sounds to us like Mary was just doing her job.

This isn't the first time Queen Courtney has been arrested for disruptive behavior in the air. In 1995, she was arrested in Melbourne, Australia after getting into an altercation with a flight attendant. At the time, she explained that it was the fault of "a really mean stewardess." Jesus!!! Why won't these unruly flight attendants please just leave Courtney alone??!
