Pinback to Release Two New EPs, Tour the U.S.
Nikhil Swaminathan & Kevin Keenan report:
Pinback is scheduled to double their discography this year, and to top it off, they're even touring. As
mentioned in a Pitchfork story last October, the lo-fi dreamweavers are set to release an EP each on Ace Fu
and Absolutely Kosher, along with a full-length on Touch & Go. The Absolutely Kosher EP release, titled
Offcell, will be released on April 29th. The five tracks to be included are all exclusive to this
release. Tracklist:
01 Microtonic Wave
02 Victorious D
03 Off Cell
04 B
05 Grey - Machine
Meanwhile, Ace Fu's Pinback EP is said to be comprised of outtakes and B-sides from the West Coast
post-modernists, though the release date and tracklist are still up in the air at this time. The label
would only say that the offering would probably hit shelves somewhere between late summer and Christmas
of 2003. The Touch & Go release is rumored to drop on March 11th, but our sources were unable to confirm
or deny this. If all this information is utterly confusing to you, try writing it. Shit, maybe you should
just go to a record store in mid-March and see what they have there. Alternatively, you could go to a
Pinback show and check the merch table. (Um, we're doin' our best here, people.)
And speaking of Pinback shows, the band has booked a solid month of tour dates beginning roughly this time
next month. They expect to cover 24 cities over 25 dates, hitting Chicago on two separate occasions, possibly
to be extra sure they get to bitchslap Schreiber for running that fuckin' half-wit review of Blue Screen
Life back in December of '01. Tour dates:
03-12 Tucson, AZ - Club Congress
03-14 Austin, TX - Emo's
03-17 St Louis, MO - Rocketbar
03-18 Chicago, IL - Empty Bottle
03-19 Champaign, IL - High Dive

In related news, Pinback frontman Rob Crow has just completed a solo album entitled My Room Is a Mess.
As it's just been turned in for pressing, we've still got a while to wait on it, but sources at Absolutely
Kosher have it slated for release on May 20th. A firm tracklist isn't yet in place, but the record is said
to contain not one, not two, but 18 songs. According to sources at the label, fans can expect styles ranging
from "boy-band pop/new jack R&B; to death metal to odd new wave to the simple, minimal pop" that Pinback is
known for. Which leaves us, for once, Absolutely speechless.
