Death Cab, American Analog Set Frontmen Split EP
On April 29th, Austin's Post-Parlo Records will release the fifth installment in its surprisingly solid series of split EPs, entitled HOME, Volume V. Ben Gibbard (of Death Cab for Cutie and The Postal Service) and Andrew Kenny (of American Analog Set) split songwriting and performing duties straight down the middle, complete with Gibbard covering an American Analog Set tune ("Choir Vandals," from 2001's Know by Heart) and Kenny tackling Death Cab's "Line of Best Fit".
According to Post-Parlo, HOME, Volume V will be available in two editions-- a letterpressed and hand-numbered version with artwork consistent with the other volumes in the series, and a jewel-case commercial version. Series subscribers, of course, will get the numbered editions, which are limited to 1,000 copies. Mail orders and record stores will have their choice of the limited-edition sleeve or the (presumably non-limited) vanilla edition. Tracklist:
01 Ben Gibbard: You Remind Me of Home
02 Ben Gibbard: Carolina
03 Ben Gibbard: Farmer Chords
04 Ben Gibbard: Choir Vandals
05 Andrew Kenny: Hometown Fantasy
06 Andrew Kenny: Home Recording Has Ruined My Life
07 Andrew Kenny: Churchmouse in the Churchhouse
08 Andrew Kenny: Line of Best Fit [Death Cab for Cutie cover]
Gibbard and Kenny played together at Post-Parlo's birthday hootenanny back in January and will in all likelihood mix it up again at SXSW next week, where both Kenny and Death Cab for Cutie are on the mammoth Barsuk/Touch & Go/Post-Parlo showcase bill with the likes of John Vanderslice, The Long Winters, Pinback, and Quasi. Yeah, holy shit, exactly! It's an all-day happening, and what's even crazier is that's it's free. As previously reported, Death Cab for Cutie are out and about the western U.S. all this month, roadtesting a new drummer and possibly growing John Oates-esque moustaches (those dates in our previous story). Kenny, in addition to the all-star indie marathon at Emo's, will also be playing a more intimate gig at The Mercury a couple days before. Those dates:
03-12 Austin, TX - The Mercury (Andrew Kenny)
03-14 Austin, TX - Emo's (Andrew Kenny, Death Cab for Cutie, Pinback, Quasi)
