TV On The Radio Add Two Members, Record New Full-Length, Embark on 33-Date U.S. Tour

Poker night with Xiu Xiu yields untold riches

Hard on the heels of their brilliant five-song EP, Young Liars, indie rock up-and-comers TV on the Radio-- one of only a few Brooklyn-based bands not trafficking in art-punk or electroclash-- are preparing to release their debut full-length and planning a nationwide tour to take place in October and November. Band member David Sitek recently stated that the album, which is nearly completed, will be their Thriller-- albeit without guest appearances from Paul McCartney, Eddie Van Halen, and Vincent Price, or the songwriting prowess of one Rod Temperton. Touch & Go is planning a February 2004 release.

Unless we've gotten to the point where 8.9's just don't mean anything anymore, you should have heard TV on the Radio's Young Liars EP by now. And unless you've gotten to the point where bands from New York just don't mean anything to you anymore, you should have found the listening to be time well spent: if you can get even three-quarters of the way through "Staring at the Sun" without your jaw falling to the floor, you, my friend, must have one of those types of jaws that's connected to your face.

There is a good chance that the trio-- consisting of brothers David Andrew and Jason Sitek, and future hype-magnet vocalist Tunde Adebimpe-- could sound vastly different by the time their debut album comes around: the trio of NY-famous guests that appeared on the Young Liars EP (Liars' Aaron Hemphill and Nick Zinner and Brian Chase of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs) won't be making appearances, for one; and for two, they'll be replaced by two full-time players: guitarist/vocalist Kyp Malone and drummer/looper Jaleel Bunton.

Though the five-piece won't debut in most areas for a couple months yet, a handful of shows are scheduled in the meantime in New York-- and one in Iceland. TV on the Radio performed at Luxx in Brooklyn every Sunday last month and they'll play another New York gig later this month at the Knitting Factory. Following that will be a trip to the Icelandic Airwaves festival held in Reykjavík on October 15th-19th before beginning serious touring countrywide. Here are the dates:
