Oakland, CA's Brendon Whitney, who goes by the alias Alias, releases his latest joint, Muted, this week through Anticon. If you're really up on this sorta shit, though, you're already hip to the fact that the record has been available at anticon.com for some time and, according to label reps, was also dropped last week to local music retailers near you (um, yeah, prolly not Sam Goody though, Chachi). Alias is a veritable old hand at the East Bay label, having released an LP and an EP in the past two years while producing tracks by labelmates Sole and Sage Francis and collaborating with just about everyone else in their stable.

This time out, Alias loses the MC bit and goes fully, er, instrumental, as he crafts hip hop-electronic soundscapes sans the raps. The album features collaborations with Markus Archer of The Notwist and fellow Anticon crew member Pedestrian. Tracklist:

Beginagain
Sixes Last
Again for the First Time
Unseen Sights [featuring Markus Archer]
Shoes, Cars, and Soft Drinks
Caged In, Wasting Away
Full Circle Blues
I Would Like to Write a Song That...
Am I Cool Now?
Chew the Fat
The Physical Voice [featuring Pedestrian]
One Obvious Rule
Lost Friend Advice

Whitney will be hitting the road and kicking off a 21-date tour of the U.S. on Saturday, November 1st. Supporting him will be the aforementioned Sole, former Restiform Bodies MC and Sole producer Telephone Jim Jesus and Odd Nosdam, also of Anticon fame. Dates:
