Grandaddy Team Up With Polyphonic Spree For New Years, Prep New Single
Who's your 'daddy?

Re-releasing their latest album, Sumday, with a glut of bonus tracks just wasn't enough for Central Cali's postpop synth-wielders Grandaddy. Nope, they went and decided to cough up a double A-side single from the new album on the 12th day of 2004. Sporting both the ace "I'm On Standby" and the bafflingly awful "Stray Dog And The Chocolate Shake," the UK-only single will also include a new cut called "The Town Where I Live In Now," and a video for "Fare Thee Not Well Mutineer."

As previously reported, Grandaddy has been in the midst of a 52-date tour since mid-September. First of all, I'll be damned if that ain't a long dawg-on tour. And second of all, Jason Lytle and company have but four of those 52 dates (all of which take place in the UK) left to go.

Once back in the states, Grandaddy are poised to jump-start 2004 with a firecracker New Years' gig in Los Angeles, the city so bad Vegas had to slap a restraining order on it demanding it stay at least a five-hour drive away at all times. Supporting Grandaddy for the occasion will be The Polyphonic Spree, who we're pretty sure are just trying to get an east coast-west coast thing going with the Danielson Famile over who has the better robes and who is tigher with Jesus. The dates:

12-07 Brighton, England - Corn Exchange
12-08 Norwich, England - Waterfront
12-09 Portsmouth, England - Pyramid
12-10 London, England - Brixton Academy

12-31 Los Angeles, CA - Wiltern (w/ The Polyphonic Spree)
