You're the 101 that I want, oo-oo-ooh

The 101, featuring former Christie Front Drive and Antarctica frontman Eric Richter, release their long-awaited debut EP this week on the Self Starter Foundation label. The self-titled EP includes five songs that, according to the blurb at the label website, are reminiscent of "classic Buffalo Tom as much as Christie Front Drive." You may've already heard one of the tracks and not even known it, as "6/8" was recently seen in an MTV commercial. You remember MTV, right? That's that channel that used to show music videos.

Richter fronted Christie Front Drive from 1993 to 1996, and, although the band had a relatively small output of material, somehow managed to influence every emo band in the known universe. After the band split, Richter surprised many people by forming Antarctica, a wonderful synth-driven outfit whose emotion-filled lyrics and somber, haunting music reminded many of The Cure and New Order. As Antarctica was defunct by the turn of the century, and many have been wondering what Richter's next move was. Now you know. Tracklist:

01 Psychotropic Love
02 Blossom
03 6/8
04 Real
05 Let Them Sin
