Adult. Schedule Live Dates in December, Release Split With the Dirtbombs
Fun fact: electroclashers schooled in rock by Hall and Oates (oh yeah! oh yeah!)

[Posted Friday, December 5th, 2003 04:00:00 Pitchfork Central Time]

According to their website, Adult., the Ersatz Audio label proprietors and one of the rare electroclash bands who tip the scales on the side of substance rather than style, are joining Electronicat and Tamion 12 Inch on a li-i-i-i-i-i-i-tle tiny itty bitty tour in December. Adult. is part Krautrock, part "Sprockets" skit (yeah, I guess that is kind of a tautology), part paranoid and sardonically witty electro-pop. They're one of the few who may persist after the mercifully swift implosion of the SBD (silent but deadly) cultural fart of electroclash.

And what's a tour without a new release? Well, the opposing (but soooo complimentary) sex organs of Adult. have a split coming out with fellow Detroit music makers The Dirtbombs. Each band will be covering a song by the other, and the record should taste fresh oxygen sometime in late January in a joint release by Ersatz Audio and Cass Records. Finally, electro and garage meet. Oh, wait, that's already pretty much happened. Shut up, here's your tracklist:

01 Adult: "Pray for Pills"
02 The Dirtbombs: "Lost Love"

Electronicat is sample-happy Fred Bigot, who uses snippets of guitar, vocals and various FX to create psychedelic electro-punk in the vein of Suicide or Soft Cell. The unfortunately-named Bigot is fierce and fearless in his Electronicat guise, but regresses to a total pansy in Cringer form. Masters of the Universe reference-- score! Twenty points for me in the Pitchfork newswriting scavenger hunt. Now if I can pull off a The Facts of Life reference for a whopping fifty points, I'll be certain to knock Joshua Sharp out of the lead-- that guy's a referencing machine-- and win the ice cream social for my team!

The tour will be rounded out by Ersatz Audio artist Tamion 12 Inch, who play intense live shows comprised of demented sing-alongs, analog synth lines, bass and electronic percussion. Let's see, Tamion 12 Inch... was there a Tami on The Facts of Life? No? Too bad, would've made for a great innuendo... damn you, Sharp! You win this round. Grumble, grumble. Oh yeah, the electro-dates:

12-05 Detroit, MI - Magic Stick
12-06 Cleveland, OH - Grog Shop
12-11 Boston, MA - TT the Bear's
12-12 Baltimore, MD - Ottobar
12-13 New York, NY - Knitting Factory
