Interpol Return to the Studio, Finally
Sadly, "studio" just a more midtown word for "salon"

As much as we hate to snag our news from Rolling Stone, we must concede that they sometimes beat us to the punch on things. It's a give and take: they grab our stories about Godspeed You Black Emperor being detained by feds (even using our quotes!), and refuse to attribute their source; we humbly admit that, yes, we heard it from Rolling Fucking Stone that-- wait for it-- INTERPOL HAVE RETURNED TO THE STUDIO.

According to the 'Stone, who referred to Carlos D using his complete, unfortunate surname, the band has seven new songs penned and will gear up to cut the record following their completion of their fall tour. "They've been in existence for close to a year now," Cracklin' D said of the new tracks. "But they've needed fine tuning, and it's taken us so long to do that because we've been on the road, and we don't get a chance to write on the road."

I'm enthusiastic about this announcement, but the perfect time for a band to announce that they haven't exhausted their creativity glands by retreading the same material on the road night after night is before they set out on the final leg of a world tour that spans two full years; before they beef up their discography with a king's ransom of worthless singles, and for the love of christ, before they insult their audience with an abhorrent aggregation of previously released material that costs five dollars more than their debut did on its release at a good store. But fuck me, marketing is marketing, and they do call this the music business. Besides, file-sharing and all that. What do you want?!

Oh yeah, a new album. Okay, then: live versions of some of the new songs have leaked to our favorite underground MP3 networks, includind "NARC", "Length of Love", and "Strangers in the Night". Otherwise, the band has announced no tentative release date, no working title, and potential tracklist as of yet. But be patient. We're sure Rolling Stone will have more on this shortly.
