Dave Grohl To Produce Rye Coalition
Ham coalition demands representation from Krist Novoselic

Rye Coalition, who are either one of the most rocking indie bands on the planet or one of the most indie rock bands on the planet (depending on your perspective), are currently working on the follow up to 2002's On Top. The record will be the band's first since leaving their former home at Tiger Style Records for the big leagues at Dreamworks. The New Jersey quintet made minor waves back in June when they signed to the label, home to a wide range of artists including emo-pop superstars Jimmy Eat World, Saturday Night Live newsman Jimmy Fallon, Nashville songwriter-turned-country singer Jimmy Wayne, and many other artists whose names are not Jimmy.

After the deal was set, the band began working with their A&R; rep, Kenny Salcido, to find a producer for the new record. A wish list was created, with rocknfuckinroll superstar Dave Grohl at the top as what basically amounted to a "yeah, right" candidate. Luckily, Grohl was already a fan (not too surprising, when you consider that Rye Coalition have toured with Grohl butt-buddies Queens of the Stone Age) and hit it off with the band after their first meeting.

No release date has been set, but anticipation is high, and the band is aware of it. According to their website, the sessions have been "nothing short of amazing, and each member has not only raised the bar on their writing style, but their already extraordinary playing level as well." It is currently unclear if the finished result will actually be released by Dreamworks considering the label's absorbtion by the notorious roster-slashers at Universal Music Group (see our previous story linked below), but if the end product glows even half as bright as the band's own assessment of the work-in-progress, it just might be Alien Ant Farm that get their walking papers.
