The University of Virginia is doing its best to enliven an otherwise painfully dull time of year by presenting the second annual Fest Full of Rock on January 31st, 2004, in the Student Activities Building in Charlottesville. Last year's inaugural event was a surprise (and sold out) success, chock full of such luminaries as Denali, Trans Am, and Q & Not U. This year, the organizers have definitely upped the ante by snagging some pretty major players, including Dischord's house troubadours El Guapo, Jason Molina's Magnolia Electric Co., Montreal's favorite weirdos and hot band of the moment the Unicorns, Matador rawknrollers Pretty Girls Make Graves, and hip-hop's instrumental wunderkind RJD2, amongst others.

If things continue like this, the Fest Full of Rock could soon be (if it isn't already) rivalling the Mac Rock festival over the mountain in Harrisonburg, VA, which has long been a minor legend on the college rock circuit, and which itself takes place this year from April 1 - 2 at James Madison University. Just like primaries in an election year, the festival season seems to start earlier and earlier. Vote early, vote often. Lineup:

12:05 - 12:40 Ted Stryker's Drinking Problem
1:00 - 1:35 The Out Circuit
1:55 - 2:30 El Guapo
2:50 - 3:25 Engine Down
3:55 - 4:45 Magnolia Electric Co.
5:05 - 5:55 Broken Spindles
6:15 - 7:15 Unicorns
7:35 - 8:35 Hopesfall
8:55 - 9:55 Pretty Girls Make Graves
10:15 - 11:30 RJD2
