Neverending White Lights Round Up Mogwai, Creeper Lagoon, Shudder To Think, Velvet Teen Personnel For Debut Album
Several major labels express interest, provided name is changed to Neverending White Stripes

Be glad that we're here to tell you about the enigmatic Neverending White Lights project. Otherwise, you'd have to go to their website. What happens when you go to the website is this: first, you look at a bunch of spooky black and white flash stuff of weird things with angel wings, and ladders leaning against walls all ominous and sans context. Then you go to check out some Hentai game reviews on Somethingawful.com to shake off the fantods, but the phone rings and bumps you offline just as a pic of a cartoon girl sobbing while an invisible phallus sprays guacamole all over her head finishes loading. You answer the phone with an annoyed "What?" and a voice tells you that you're going to die in seven days unless you can successfully create a mash-up using John Cage's Four Walls Falling, Counting Crows'August and Everything After, and Howard Dean's suddenly infamous battle cry. What's the moral? Aesop says: don't go to the website. Unless you're Dangermouse or something.

Neverending White Lights is a conceptual art project revolving around one Daniel Victor, who recently showcased material from the record live in Ontario with Finger Eleven's Scott Anderson. The project, which has been in the works for two years, is now completed and looking for a label. Neverending White Lights is dedicated to bringing together disparate artists from the underground and the mainstream to contribute to Victor's musical compositions. The first album in the series, Neverending White Lights: Act I - Goodbye Friends of the Heavenly Bodies, is expected to be released some time this year.

How it went down: Victor wrote, produced, and recorded the music, then invited the various artists-- members of Mogwai, Hum, The Velvet Teen, Creeper Lagoon, Shudder to Think, Our Lady Peace, Starflyer 59, Cirrus, Finger Eleven, Deckard, Switchfoot, 311, Age of Electric, and Supergarage-- to embellish his compositions with lyrics, vocals, melody lines, instrumentation, and farty armpit noises. According to Victor "the atmosphere is slow and lush." Just like my uncle Ernie, with his nose full of busted capillaries and perpetual hip flask! Well, that's probably not what he meant.

By the way, the NWL website, or "deathsite" as I've taken to calling it, also has a biographical essay about Victor, written by an angel named Samandiriel who met the artist while shopping for hot kicks in Prague and who still seeks Victor's advice from time to time. I'm saying, folks; you can't make this stuff up. It's accompanied by a gauzy, soft-focused picture of Victor himself; a picture that makes it very easy to imagine him yelling "I'm an artist, damn it!" at the most inappropriate moments. But I'm sure that in real life he's very nice and humble. I wouldn't know; I guess one doesn't have time to answer e-mails from writers when one is busy consorting with celestial beings on matters of mortality, art and stylish footwear. Now if you'll excuse me, I gotta hit up Columbia House for twelve CD's for a penny so's I can score me some Counting Crows and gets to mashing.
