New Kristin Hersh Band 50 Foot Wave Complete Debut Album
Hersh and Donelly don flannels, compete in log-rolling and Muse Toss

As revealed in a recent Sub Pop expose, the Pitchfork staff is bound to a life of almost ascetic solitude in order to get all our work done. In the aftermath of what Andy Ward may or may not have said to the ticket girl at the Pretty Girls Make Graves show, we think it best to clarify our position: we love talking to girls, but we've got a website to run, people. If there were but world and time enough, we could do both, but there isn't, so I can't go saying "hi" to every Jill, Georgette, and Mollie who tries to sell me a concert ticket, because I've got to write this here story on Kristin Hersh. Kristin Hersh, who has a new band, in addition to her two existing bands and her four children. Kristin Hersh, who puts us all to shame.

Hersh's new band is called 50 Foot Wave. It's a three-piece, and includes Bernard Georges of Throwing Muses and Rob Ahlers, who was also in the '90s one-hit-wonder band Chalk Farm (hey, a guy from Black Lab is in Sun Kil Moon, so who am I to doubt the factual accuracy of the All Music Guide?) Throwing Music Online describes the band: "Yes, it will still be Kristin singing and writing songs, but it will not be Throwing Muses. 50 Foot Wave is meant to be harder, faster, more intense and built from the ground up as an overwhelming live experience. There will be lots of touring, about 50-75 shows a year." Yeah, but can they do that on the Pitchfork Cheetos diet?

The band's untitled debut album will be released March 23rd, and was recorded from October to December of last year, as documented in their website's studio diary. Songs mentioned in the diary: "Lavender," "Glory Weed," "Dog Days," "Bug," "Clara Bow," and "Long Painting." The band has three shows in the Pacific Northwest scheduled for the last weekend in February, in between appearances at Noise Pop and SXSW. Dates:

02-25 San Francisco, CA - Cafe du Nord (Noise Pop Festival)
02-27 Seattle, WA - Easy Street Records (in-store)
02-27 Seattle, WA - Tractor Tavern
02-28 Portland, OR - Lola's Room
03-18 Austin, TX - Momo's (SXSW)
