Entrance Touring With Cat Power, Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Disappointed to learn that backwards hurdygurdy sounds pretty much the same as frontwards

In case all your bearded indie friends (the ones clutching their copies of their Unicorns records, at least) haven't told you yet, folk music is cool again. Oh, and psychedelia is back, too. And the blues is making a push of its own-- in fact, pretty much all that shit that was waving your mother's peace sign back and forth during the '60s is übergroovy these days. And the music your great-grandpa played on his front porch is even hipper.

It's become a sort of tacit fight to sound as temporally out of place in your given context as humanly and aurally possible. And sure, it might not be all that authentic, or in some cases, good-- but that's part of the draw: "Oh, look at that indie rocker over there stripping down his angular angst and shoving it into a tiny wooden guitar. Isn't that cute? He wants to be plugged in so bad. But, this is a higher form of expression." Neat!

Just look at Guy Blakeslee, former member of The Convocation Of, making a damn career out of ripping off Robert Johnson, Mississippi Fred McDowell, and T. Rex, as evidenced on his recent Honey Moan. But actually, he's doing it so well that he's shared bills with Devendra Banhart (the one-man watershed that birthed this whole folk craze) and the indubitable Chan Marshall. And over the months of February and March, he'll be doing it again-- this time, with Marshall's Cat Power and Karen O.'s "I'm really not ugly" vehicle, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Here's them dates:
