Don Caballero Tour, Plan New Releases
Name change to "Don Cab For Cutie" blatant attempt to get mentioned on "The O.C."

Math-rock's long lost heroes, Don Caballero, are returning to the touring circuit again, this time covering most of the right half of the country throughout the month of March. This marks the second time in recent months that the band has toured, although it is certainly worth noting that drummer Damon "The Octopus" Che is the only member you'll recognize from the band's late '90s heyday. Che noticed this slight inconsistency, and in an attempt to get people to shut up about it, told the Pittsburgh Pulp the following: "In reality, I've been the only original member of Don Cab since 1999... Nobody said anything when we went on without Mike [Banfield, former guitarist who left around '98]. The fact of the matter is Ian wasn't an original member of the band. I've got to make a living and this is what I do best."

Not content with being a "greatest hits" touring act, Che has also promised future releases by the band. First up is Sludgehammer, an EP of long-lost material dating all the way back to the dark ages of 1991 (seriously, "2 Legit 2 Quit" was a hit single that year). Coincidentally, Sludgehammer was the name of an early band featuring former Don Cab guitarist Ian Williams, as well as Karl Hendricks, who, in addition to fronting his own band, played with Che in Thee Speaking Canaries. The EP will be the predecessor to future recordings made by the new lineup. Much as we’d love to hear another great record out of Che, the fact of the matter is that the chance of anything new living up to the masterpiece that is American Don is so slim that I can't help but wonder if there's a point.
