Touch & Go's CocoRosie Launch Tour
Duo not invited back to La Maison de Mon Père after scoffing at his Folger's

Looks like the mellow acoustic Scandinavian stylings of the Kings of Convenience have found some competition in the form of Touch & Go's latest signees, CocoRosie, who are gearing up to head out on tour in support of their new album, La Maison de Mon Reve, which dropped March 9th via Touch & Go. They'll spend the dates accompanying artists ranging from TV on the Radio, to Devendra Banhart (as part of the NoisePop Festival), to Calexico, to Black Heart Procession, to Azure Ray. More Midwest and East Coast dates are promised in April, before the duo jets off to tour Europe.

CocoRosie's core duo of sisters Bianca and Sierra Cassidy aren't actually French, as many tend to assume after listening to their debut, but they certainly give every impression of being, at the very least, intensely Francophile: The album was recorded with all due authenticity in the, ahem, 18th arrondissement of Paris during the spring of 2003. For those of you entirely helpless in the face of all things foreign, La Maison de Mon Reve translates literally as "The House of My Dream," or perhaps, a little more insouciantly, "My Dreamhouse."

The band's press release tells us that Sierra, who sings and plays guitar and flute, has had some experience in singing both gospel and opera, before settling on the very sweet bohemian folk music which characterizes CocoRosie. Bianca, we hear, also sings and plays percussion, which in this case means that she "rattles things, makes things squeak, and shakes a gold chain belt." Can you stand it? Our esteemed Senior News Writer Kevin Keenan, whose opinion is to be taken very seriously, has heard the album and reckons that "it's full of pleasant surprises, vaudeville vocals, and found percussive glitch," which sounds like a pretty good recipe for springtime listening, if we may be so bold as to talk hopefully about the spring at this point in the year. Furthermore, the press release also claims that if you listen very carefully you can hear "tiny field mice sing gospel" on the album. Wasn't that already covered by Babe: Pig in the City? That'll do, CocoRosie. That'll do. Cue dates!:
