Grey Does Matter to Release Debut in April
Anti Doesn't Matter needed to close temporal rift that's been giving the USS Indieprize so much trouble

It really does, you know. Matter, I mean. Grey does. Especially in music journalism, which is, unfortunately, often rendered in stark black and white. In fact, the term "music journalism" itself is a farce, with little logical substance to recommend it. Music criticism must allow for shades of grey to be anything besides solipsistic ranting; journalism (barring gonzo, editorial or "literary" journalism) affords no such luxury. Criticism is not journalism; this is the point. Journalism involves objectively recording facts about things that matter. Music criticism involves subjectively rendering opinions on things that don't. Did you buy any of what I just wrote? Well, that, in fact, doesn’t matter, because I’ve got the stage here, so I’m going to write whatever I want, pal!

Weezer is a great band. I don't like them. Not that I dislike them personally or wish them ill. Who would wish someone ill simply for playing music, you ask? Well, have you surfed the indie-dork message boards lately? It's scary out there. I certainly don't wish Weezer bodily harm or lingering sickness. I just don't enjoy listening to their music. I don't think it's bad. It's just not my thing. But if it were my thing, I would be totally into Weezer. And if I were totally into Weezer, I'd also be really digging on Grey Does Matter.

How to Make Millions in Real Estate, Grey Does Matter's debut album, will be released by JankoMatic Music on April 1st. It has all the earmarks of modern indie power-pop: a sort of hi-lo-fi production value, gigantic hooks and melodies, dense gleaming sheets of guitar and synths, one dude with disheveled black hair who wrote and performed the whole thing (a Mr. Jason Crawford of NYC). I'm not really into this sort of power-pop, but that doesn't mean I can't say: that's some damn fine power-pop that man is playing over there. Crawford seems to be shooting for the moon and hoping to at least grab the stars, as the old saw goes, in that there are radio edits of two of the songs ("Sinking", "Short Sight") included on the album. For those of you who get upset when "indie" music finds its way on to "mainstream" television shows (how dare these artists actually make some money and garner some recognition? I only listen to bands that wash dishes for a living!), prepare to get pissed: "Sinking" will be featured on an upcoming episode of the new Fox series Still Life. Well, of all the nerve! Grey Does Matter is planning a tour in April, dates and venues TBA. The tracklist of How to Make Millions in Real Estate:
