Spoon Tight-Lipped About New LP, Britt Daniel Plays Solo Shows
Daniel in stable condition after near-fatal collision with Bright Eyes

Chris Rediske & Jeremy Baron report:
As I'm sure you're aware, loose lips do, in fact, sink ships. It's an adage to which Spoon frontman Britt Daniel has been hewing closely since January, when the band announced they had begun recording their fifth album. The word from Merge Records rep Martin Hall is that, though recording is proceeding apace, there is still no firm release date, tracklist, title, or tour plans: "Britt and the boys have chosen to remain pretty tight-lipped about the new recordings," he said. "All I can say is that they are progressing nicely, at Jim Eno's studio in Austin." John Vanderslice and engineer Scott Solter (The Court & Spark, Howard Hello) have also been on hand for the sessions-- and that's about all we've got. However, we'll keep on everyone's asses until we find the shit out, at which time we'll come running like little girls to tell you all about it.

In the meantime, what with being cooped up in the studio and all, Spoon's touring agenda has been virtually non-existent, and will likely continue to be until the album is finally released. They did, however, find time on Monday and Tuesday to play two shows at the Austin-based venue, The Parish. Additionally, those lucky enough to live in Arizona and California will have the opportunity to catch live solo performances by Daniel later this month. He's warmed up from his recent Texas appearances (including a stop at SXSW) and rarin' to go. The solo dates kick off next Thursday in Tucson, and more may be on the way. In the meantime, here's what's confirmed:

04-15 Tucson, AZ - Solar Culture (w/Les Humanoids)
04-17 Los Angeles, CA - Spaceland
04-19 San Francisco, CA - Hotel Utah
04-21 San Diego, CA - The Casbah (w/Outrageous Cherry, The Swords Project)
04-23 Phoenix, AZ - Stinkweed's (w/Jeff & Chris of Reubens Accomplice)
