Cat Power Supports Charities, Plans May Tour
Hecklers encouraged to throw Kleenex

Matador Records reported yesterday that, after one final show taking place tonight in Barcelona, Chan Marshall, the powerfully charismatic, wide-eyed optimist some call Cat Power, will be returning to the U.S., exhausted from an extensive Euro-tour that's taken her to London, Edinburgh, Paris and Rye. But she's not letting the jetlag slow her down: Never one to just sit around and get crabby all day, Marshall has announced a handful of U.S. tour dates, apparently just because she feels like it. Or rather, because there are causes to support, and she probably figures, shit, while I'm at it, why not fuck up a few peoples' nights with my notorious theatrical tantrums! Good point, Chan!

The causes she's out for, by the way, are good ones: The first benefactor of her musical philanthropy will be The Bereaved Israeli and Palestinian Parents' Circle, who is holding a benefit concert on Tuesday at New York's Cathedral of St. John the Divine. Marshall will appear there alongside luminary Patti Smith, as well as artists like The Erotica Trio, Osvaldo Golijob, David Broza, and the appropriately named Anonymous 4. Then in May, she'll play a solo set at the city's esteemed Bowery Ballroom venue, at a charity show for the awesomely titled Fuck Cancer benefit, whose aim is to raise money for Jackie Ferry, a close pal of the Matador stable. Also appearing that night-- almost as if to insult somebody-- will be Har Mar Superstar, Quintron and Miss Pussycat.

And then, there's the regular old non-cause-supporting tour dates, which are scheduled to kick off on May 18th. So far, the tour is set to take place primarily in California, with additional dates set for Tucson, Arizona's Solar Culture Gallery and Quincy, Washington's Gorge Amphitheater, at which Marshall will join indie superstars for the annual Sasquatch! Music Festival. Also playing the festival will be The Shins, The Roots, The New Pornographers, The Postal Service, The Long Winters, The Black Keys, and The Decemberists, as well as non "the" bands like Built to Spill, Sleater-Kinney, Preston School of Industry, Thievery Corporation, and Fruit Bats.
