Next Interpol Album Slated for Fall Release
Neil Diamond's "Heartlight" to finally get the fuck out of our heads

With their Armani gear freshly dry-cleaned and their hair restyled, New York fashionistas Interpol are reporting this week from their official website that their second album is coming along nicely, and is now slated for release in September. "NARC" and "Length of Love"-- two songs the band premiered on their sprawling world tour(s) in support of their ridiculously successful debut, Turn on the Bright Lights-- are said to be well on their way to official albumification, along with several others the band has written since that ambitious stint. The new record, which is presently awaiting a title, will once again utilize the talents of engineer Peter Katis.

Aside from being quite popular with human beings who like music, Interpol became something of a hot item amongst shiteating major-label A&R; pigdogs when their Matador debut, Turn on the Bright Lights, managed to "move" over 100,000 "units" in its first six months on shelves. And an extensive schedule of touring and repeated television appearances certainly didn't hurt the band's snowballing popularity: The record was still selling about 4,000 copies a week at the end of January 2003. To date, the record has sold over 275,000 copies. To put it in perspective, My Bloody Valentine's classic Loveless sold less than half that in the same amount of time.

Presumably to keep the hype up for their second record, Interpol's website is currently offering a "Swimwear Remix" of Bright Lights' "Untitled", while the instrumental number "Interlude", previously available exclusively on the Japanese version of their debut, has just been made available for purchase on iTunes. Also, it is our pleasure to report that the band has finally stopped issuing import singles of slightly varying tracklists and cover art. Must have been that cease-and-desist we faxed over. It's a dirty job, but...
