Trans Am once rode the wave of post-punk along with such bands as Labradford, Ui, and Thrill Jockey labelmates Tortoise. Their 1996 self-titled debut caught the attention of music lovers with its cold and clinical yet darkly textured sound; but since 2000's The Red Line, things have been, well, sort of dull. 2002's T.A., to put it bluntly, really sucked, and this year's political outcry against George Dubya, Liberation, made us realize that even a talented band like Trans Am, when fronting a message as important as global awareness, can produce a really chillingly uninteresting album. But it's still an upswing, and naturally, the guys have planned an extensive, multi-national tour-- which is already underway-- to promote the record. Dates:
