Björk at Work on Two New Albums

Release dates: Possibly, maybe, probably not

According to a report in the latest edition of i-D, Iceland's resident nymphette hot girl Björk is currently putting the finishing touches on her follow-up to 2001's Vespertine. Despite earlier reports that tentatively cited this fall as a drop date, the album now sports a TBD on the Elektra Records release schedule, and, as expected, is also shirking its working title of The Lake Experience.

The album is set to feature a massive list of contributors, almost all of whom have virtually unpronounceable names. If you're interested in trying, though, we suggest you do so in the following order, starting with the very easiest and culminating with the unfuckwithable: The Icelandic Choir, Mark Bell, Matmos, Dokaka, Valgeir, Tagaq, and finally, Jórunn Viðar. (Initial rumors of possible production work by Xzorzo Vón Sck\xECekð\xFEô5d have been discredited.) Björk is currently mixing the record, so if you've got a jacked-up name and are hoping to get in on the action, it's now or never, hoss.

But Ms. Guðmundsdóttir ain't stopping there. Whereas she typically follows her releases with gargantuan world tours, she's apparently taking a different approach this time out. Speaking to i-D, she revealed: "Because I did two tours in a row-- Vespertine and Greatest Hits-- I'm going to reward myself and do two albums in a row. I'm going to try it for the first time just to see, because I always do an album, finish it, mix it, then go on tour. And I'm always wondering, 'What if I had of stayed home one more month?' Because sometimes you do your best stuff after you have mixed."

It goes without saying that the follow-up to the follow-up is also without a title or street date (or, for that matter, songs). In the meantime, Björk will be issuing individual releases for each of the four discs in her 2003 Live Box on Tuesday. The discs-- Debut Live, Post Live, Homogenic Live and Vespertine Live-- are expected to share the same tracklists as their studio counterparts, with material recorded on tour between 1993 and 2002. However, her long-discussed singles box set is still, as ever, in limbo.
