Modest Mouse Gear Up for Massive Summer Tour
Moon, Antarctica turn up promising venues in Cellular One Palladium of Tranquility, Magnavox Ice Shelf Amphitheater

Load up on sunscreen, kids, 'cause just in time for the heat of the summer sun to sink itself into the deep blackness of your vintage Slayer tee, Modest Mouse will be hitting the road in support of their wildly popular new full-length, Good News for People who Love Bad News. The album, released on April 6th, has received high marks from fans and critics alike, and with heavy airplay from MTV and modern rock stations nationwide, the band's fanbase is skyrocketing: Good News lands at #23 on Billboard's albums chart this week-- even snagging the chart's coveted "greatest gainer" status. Meanwhile, the album's first single, "Float On", has risen to #10 on the Modern Rock charts, and-- holy shit-- even made a dent in the publication's Hot 100 singles chart, an absolutely unheard of feat for a band who got their start as the most challenging interview on the Up Records roster.

Eccentric frontman Isaac Brock has taken the band's newfound popularity in stride, neither seeming too surprised or too indifferent. Speaking with VH1 (!) last month, Brock humbly stated, "It's nice, but I don't know what it means. I've been doing this band for so long that it doesn't really register." Have another beer, m'man.

Much of Modest Mouse's summer tour itinerary will consist of dates with the suddenly all indie-centric Lollapalooza festival, but before that gets underway, they'll be headed off to Europe for a taste of an entirely 'nother festival scene altogether, which includes stops at Germany's Hurricane Festival, Belgium's Rock Werchter, and Norway's Quart. And while they're in the neighborhood, they'll also be showing up wasted for gigs at the absolutely-huge-sounding-but-not-really-quite-that-big Shepherd's Bush Empire in London, Manchester's more modestly named Academy 2, and some two-bit dive called Columbia Fritz in Berlin. Additionally, a handful of post-palooza dates are presently scheduled in Texas for mid-September, which we can only assume should mark the start of a very ambitious North American tour. For now, here's the plan:
