Did you hear the word on the streets? Guided by Voices are breaking up! Okay, you did know. Good. It's a shame, though, and even though we've finally come to grips with this harrowing loss, Robert Pollard's Great Revolving Door will clearly not be content until it reminds us one last time of all we'll be missing. Yes, before they go gently into that cold, thankless night, Guided by Voices will be sending a parting gift. And the fact that we have to pay for it should not diminish its very special specialness.

As previously reported, Half Smiles of the Decomposed, which is scheduled for release on August 24th via Matador Records, will be Guided by Voices' final release. A couple weeks back, we included an unconfirmed tracklist for the album, which has turned out to be-- surprise to you!-- not the final tracklist at all. Come on people, have GBV ever released an 11-song album? You had to be suspicious. Well, the good news (for us) is that we weren't completely off the mark; the good news for you is that we have now, in our hands, the real deal. Peek:

Also as previously reported, Guided by Voices will launch an extensive farewell tour upon the album's release. Those dates should be announced in the coming months, but for now, three shows have been added to the pre-release tour itinerary; two in early June, and one in August. Venues and dates are below.
