Engine Down Sign to Lookout! Records
In the midst of all the killing and flesh-eating, they forgot about the Lovitt

Lookout! Records has announced that Engine Down, the handsomest post-hardcore band (read: heavy emo with some swagger in its angst) this side of... of... well, perhaps the only handsome post-hardcore band ever, will join the Lookout! roster to release their fourth LP. The self-titled record, produced by Brian McTernan (Thrice, Cave In, Hot Water Music), is slated for an August 24th release, and will be embellished (in the style of the day) with videos, in-studio film, live performances, and a discussion with Jacques Derrida on Keeley Davis' hair as Platonic Ideal. And it'll have songs, too:

01 Rogue
02 And Done
03 Control Group
04 Cover
05 In Turn
06 Long Time Waiting
07 101
08 The Walk In
09 Stand By
10 Well Read
11 Etc.

According to a Lookout! representative, the story of Engine Down's switcharoo from Lovitt Records (their former label) to Lookout! goes like this: Mahmood Shaikh, who books Ted Leo for Lookout!, also books Engine Down. Mahmood contacted Lookout! and suggested they go and check out Engine Down at a show in San Francisco, which Christopher Appelgren and Cathy Bauer, two of the three Lookout! owners, did. The rest is history, or will be, should there come a time when an indie rock band changing labels qualifies as history.

Apparently, no bad blood boils between Engine Down and the all-around nice guys at Lovitt. Engine Down's Jonathan Fuller says of the exodus: "We've had a great run at Lovitt, three records, we love [them] to death and know [they] would bend over backwards for us. We left for one main reason-- distribution. We have toured our asses off over the past two or three years, and plan on continuing. We need for our records to be available in stores, otherwise, we'd be shooting ourselves in the foot." So please go buy Engine Down's records, which are now available in stores-- it's the least you can do considering they're touring 24/7 with (possible) bullets in their feet and no asses. And speaking of touring, they are. With Sparta. Lookout!:
